COTTON BOWL
Dallas, Texas
FACTS:
The Cotton Bowl, which first opened in 1932, has served as the site of the
NCAA's annual Cotton Bowl Classic (since 1937) and the SMU Mustangs home
games; the original home of the Dallas Cowboys (1960-70); the original home
of the AFL Dallas Texans, who later became the Kansas City Chiefs (1960-62);
and the annual Texas-OU college football game. WCCW's annual October
spectaculars took place here from 1984 to 1988.
STATUS: Still drawing huge
crowds on Texas-OU Weekend and New Year's Day, though the Cotton Bowl Classic is scheduled to
relocated to the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington in 2010. The
Cotton Bowl stadium, however, is now scheduled for renovation, and the Universities of Texas and Oklahoma have elected to
keep the famed Red River Rivalry there through 2015.
LOCATION: In Fair Park,
on Cotton Bowl Circle.
