In addition to their home territory of
Dallas-Fort Worth, Fritz Von Erich and his sons were immensely popular
in NWA president Sam Muchnick's (and Pat O'Connor's, from 1982 on) St. Louis promotion. It was here that David Von Erich first received a
strong push as a serious contender for the NWA World Heavyweight belt,
teaming with father Fritz and winning over then-champ Harley Race in a
televised non-title handicap match.
